I hate New Year’s resolutions. They just make you feel so bad about yourself. Are you with me?
You reflect on all the good intentions you had in the last year that you never made good on—whether it was to lose weight, exercise more, eat healthy, or save money—and then you set the same unreasonable goals for the coming year… only to be filled with guilt and shame once more for not having achieved them. Rinse and repeat. Who needs that pressure?!
I’ve made major changes in my life over the past few years, and I can tell you that it was NOT through resolution setting. Resolutions only pile on pressure and highlight everything you haven’t done—not exactly a recipe for success.
I may hate New Year’s resolutions, but I do love a fresh start!
I love an opportunity to brush off the past, give myself a break and some renewed energy, and look upon the next year with optimism and hope.
There are lots of things that we can’t control (everything except ourselves and our reactions, in fact). So I will only focus on what we can control—how we show up and face whatever life throws at us.
I know that my capacity to show up and enjoy life has changed dramatically. But it has NOT been by setting goals involving restriction or discipline, routines, or achievements like trying to get organized or tackle endless meal prep plans.
Because true change doesn’t happen from the outside in. It can only happen from the inside out. You have to change your mind before you can change your actions.
I started to reflect on this and ended up free-writing my process, which eventually morphed into the Anti-Resolutions Challenge. This challenge is not about changing your habits or routines. It is intentionally not about setting goals. Those things are fine, I guess, when they work. They just haven’t worked for me.
If they haven’t worked for you either, I invite you to join me in approaching the new year in a different way.
Together, let’s ditch the pressure. Ditch the shame.
In this free, five-day challenge, we’re going to look at some fundamental belief systems and how they could be holding us back from getting what we truly want. Whether it’s finding better stress management techniques, exploring meditation, or discovering what truly makes you feel fulfilled, this challenge will help you focus on what matters most.
If you’re wondering how to channel all that fresh New Year’s energy into something that might actually make you feel good about yourself AND make real changes, join my free, five-day challenge.
For five days, I will send you a daily email with thought-provoking ideas and reflection prompts that just might help you create deep and permanent shifts. And the best part? It’s totally free.
First name / Friend, let’s start the year off strong. I’m ready to slay 2025 alongside you!
All my love,
Vanessa
P.S. Accountability is a beautiful thing. If you’ve already joined the challenge but want to navigate it with a friend, you can invite them to join here.
