I had everything I could have ever dreamed of–a loving husband, five children, abundance and success–and felt trapped in a crushing and debilitating loneliness. The only thing I was missing was the only thing that actually mattered… a deep and loving connection to self and others.

That hole was so deep that I threw a bomb into the center of my life, coming within a hair’s breadth of losing everything and everyone that I loved. The bomb was incredibly painful, but it woke me up. In the aftermath, I knew I had to relearn what it was to be alive, rip off all my masks of perfection, and start to become searingly and brutally honest with myself.

I was ravenous for knowledge about my own personal growth and self inquiry, and I didn’t want to do it alone. I brought women together and sought out the best teachers. We gathered in person to grow, learn, share and support each other. I created a community through my company, NUSHU, and taught the modality of NUSHU Group, the traditional women’s circle reinvented for the modern woman. I launched The NUSHU Podcast to highlight and gather the most potent thought leaders I had come across.

Currently, I connect and continue to learn alongside curious and loving women through courses, retreats, mentorship, speaking and facilitation. As a mother of five teenagers, I’m also really excited about a book I’m writing on motherhood (stay tuned!).

My journey to discover exactly what I’m supposed to do during my time on earth is ongoing. I’m infinitely curious about the human condition.

My superpowers are holding space for others, seeing the good and beauty in everyone, and finding gems of humans and bringing them into my world.

At the end of the day I believe that what I have to offer is my unmasked, honest and messy humanity. I’ll never pretend to know all of (or any of) the answers. I’ll never let you give me your power. I truly believe that each and every one of us has all the answers we’ve ever needed inside, and that self knowledge is the key to personal power.

My goal is to help women claim that power, live the life they choose and discover their true path.

We’re in this together.

Hello and thank you so much for being here! I hope to get to know you better over time, but for now I wanted to share a little bit about who I am, what I believe in, and why I do what I do. My story starts a decade ago when I went through a very painful period of rupture in my life. It cracked me wide open and ultimately, as Leonard Cohen said, let the light in.

This is how my story began

all my love, vanessa

I believe that we hold all the answers we need inside, but that we cannot access those answers without the power of true community and human connection.

I believe that the pursuit of truth, combined with deep compassion, is the key to power and freedom.

what my values are

I absolutely love my life and my work. My plan is to grow old surrounded by a web of family and friends, crafting endlessly, surfing relentlessly, going on wild new adventures, laughing a LOT, and living with no regrets.

I am deeply blessed with five amazing children, a one of a kind husband and extraordinary friends.

WHAT MY GIFTS ARE

WHAT MY VALUES ARE

I’m committed to showing up as my true, messy and real self, and keeping the work just as fun and light as it is deep and powerful. We must retain our ability to laugh at ourselves!

The personal growth world is full of gurus, gaslighting, toxic power dynamics and people who think they are superior to others. Yuck.

I’m also really good at crocheting, I love sports (especially surfing) and I play a mean game of Bananagrams.

My superpowers are holding space for others, seeing the good and beauty in everyone and finding gems of humans and bringing them into my world.

WHAT MY VALUES ARE

Don’t take yourself too seriously. Be willing to be brutally honest with yourself. Always be kind–remember this applies to yourself as well as to others. Skip the judgment–you don’t know what someone else is going through. Don’t forget to laugh.

I lead with love, always.

I love to share my ups, my downs, and everything in between. I write weekly(ish) newsletters because telling the truth about my life and the thoughts inside my head is the personal practice that keeps me both sane and inspired. I also love to share free resources, prompts for reflection, and introduce the teachers, products, and offerings I can’t get enough of. I would be honored to share this space with you.
